Athletic secure star youngster

Athletic secure star youngster

Athletic Bilbao have announced they have agreed a contract extension with their rising teenage star Iker Muniain.

The 16-year-old striker is seen as one of the most promising youngsters in Spanish football and attracted the interest of a host of foreign clubs as Spain came third at the Under-17 World Cup in Nigeria last month.

Muniain also became the youngest goalscorer in Primera Division history in Athletic's 2-2 draw with Real Valladolid in October.

But he has now committed himself to the Basque giants until June 30, 2015, with a buy-out clause being set at between 36 and 45million euros.

Premier League scouts

It has been rumoured that even scouts from English Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester City have been watching the exciting youngster, who has also scored two goals in five Europa League games this season.

In 18 months, Muniain has progressed from Athletic's youth team to the first team and is now a member of Spain's Under-19 and Under-20 squads.
