Race hots up for Suazo

Race hots up for Suazo

Tottenham face a fight with Atletico Madrid for highly-rated Chile striker Humberto Suazo.

Suazo is believed to be keen on a move to Europe after helping Monterrey win the Mexican League.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is thought to be a fan of Suazo and is weighing up a move for the striker as he looks to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.

However, Monterrey president Jorge Urdiales has warned it will take offers of €20million (Ј17.8million) to lure away Suazo.

"I am very proud that it is being said that Atletico Madrid is interested in a player of our team, but for the moment there isn't anything formal," Urdiales told Excelsior .

"We are going to sit down and have conversations when we receive an offer for Suazo, but it's 20million Euros that have to be paid for him because he is still under contract with us and we are not going to sell him for less money.

"At the moment the player is travelling to his homeland to have a very deserved holiday next to all his family so for the moment we are not going to disturb him by telling him about the negotiations."
