Torres out to break hoodoo

Torres out to break hoodoo
Fernando Torres has vowed to break his Santiago Bernabeu hoodoo when Liverpool take on Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The former Atletico Madrid striker comes up against his old arch-rivals after being drawn against them in the UEFA Champions League.

Torres only managed one goal in more than a dozen Madrid derbies and never left the Bernabeu on a winning team.

That feat was not for the want of trying and Torres insists he is out to bring joy to Atletico fans by getting one over their rivals Real.

"I have no feelings for Real Madrid," stated Torres. "I played for Atletico so know that if Liverpool beat Real, it will make lots of Atletico fans happy as well.

No celebrations

"I couldn't celebrate if I had scored against Atletico. I would have shown respect for my former club where I spent 12 years, the club that helped me become the person I am today.

"But if I score against Real Madrid, I will celebrate for sure. It would be great for me to get my first goals in Europe this season against Madrid.

"I feel confidence is coming back at the right time and I am sure that goals will follow. I'm looking forward to going back to Madrid, playing in a stadium where I've never won and against a great team. And because we're sure we are going to get through.

"I really don't know why I struggled so many times to score against Real. Maybe I tried too hard because I wanted it so much."
