Sevilla striker Javier Chevanton has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
The former Monaco man has been forced to undergo surgery on a knee injury sidelining him for several months.
Chevanton has seen his time at Sevilla blighted by injuries with the player making just 32 appearances in over two-and-a-half seasons in La Liga.
Sevilla doctor Adolfo Munoz admits the club had no choice but to send the player for surgery.
"Cheva has had difficulties with his knee, which we have tried to resolve in various ways," explained Sevilla club doctor Adolfo Munoz.
"It seemed our methods were working, because we were receiving positive results. However, in the final stages of treatment, we weren't able to fulfil our objectives.
"We've been discussing our options, and have come to the decision that the player will be operated on next week."
