Abel Resino Ecstatic With Atletico Madrid Debut

Atletico Madrid were rampant in the first half this afternoon, scoring three times in a comfortable win over a wretched Recreativo side.

Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan were in superb form as they ran the Recre back line ragged. Aguero opened the scoring with a neat header and then laid on two goals for his Uruguayan strike partner, and on this form the pair are among the most dangerous in European football.

It was a dream début for new manager Abel Resino, who replaced Javier Aguirre as coach on Monday, and the win edges Atletico closer to the Champions League places in the Primera Division table.

The new man in charge told journalists at the after-match press conference, "We knew that Recreativo would play to their strengths and try to contain us, but we played well and we can forget about the bad times."

Three-Goal Margin

Resino, involved in his first post-match press conference as manager of Atletico, appeared most pleased with the three excellent goals his side managed, and believed they could have made the scoreline even more emphatic.

He concluded, "We have had more opportunities to increase our advantage, and we achieved goals that their defence had no answer to.

"We have a similar footballing philosophy as Atletico but I acknowledge that we have a long way to go to reach their standard."
