England coach, Fabio Capello, had declared last week that his English side are stronger than their Spanish counterparts, even going as far as to say he believes the Three Lions will prevail against La Roja in Wednesday’s international friendly.
But the Italian tactician has come out to acknowledge the superiority of the current European champions.
“At the moment, Spain are possibly the best national team,” he said in the pre-match conference in Watford prior to his squad flying out to Seville on Tuesday.
“They played very well at Euro 2008 and all their players have a very high technical level.
“For us, the results are always important, but my players must also understand what lies in the future, who we play in the next game and where the team stand now.
“Because of that, I’m interested to see how my players fare against a team who have a very different style of play, a team more similar to the South Americans.
“In November, we overcame Germany but their style is completely different from Spain’s,” he emphasised.
This will be the 22nd officialmeeting between England and Spain, with the Three Lions winning 11 previous encounters to La Seleccion’s eight victories.
