Lionel Scaloni Delighted At Real Mallorca Turnaround

It has been a difficult season in many respects for Real Mallorca, with off the field controversy being mirrored by disappointing performances on the pitch.

The collapse of the proposed takeover by English businessman Paul Davidson midway through the campaign put the future of the club in serious doubt, while the players have struggled to get results as they face up to a relegation battle.

But Sunday's narrow 1-0 win over rivals Numancia has given defender Lionel Scaloni real belief that the current squad has enough ability to get them out of trouble.

The full-back told Marca , " The team needed a little more commitment when things did not go well, and there has been a real shift in attitude recently.

"The players have understood the message and it has been an excellent turnaround."

Older Heads

The Argentine continued by saying that it is the responsibility of the more senior and experienced members of the squad to set an example of the level of concentration required to take the club out of their current predicament.

He added, "The older players in the squad have to take things forward on a psychological level, and this is what is happening.

"It is important to have veterans in the side who can be on hand to help other players at crucial times."

Real Mallorca's battling victory has moved them above Numancia in the league table, and they are level on points with Osasuna as the relegation run-in begins to take shape.
