Ronaldo certain of success

Ronaldo certain of success

Cristiano Ronaldo is confident he can end his first season at Real Madrid in style by winning the Primera Division.

The 25-year-old, who joined Madrid for a world record Ј80million from Manchester United last summer, has seen his side win their last six matches and lie just two points off league leaders Barcelona.

With the Catalans still to visit the Bernabeu for another instalment of El Classico, Ronaldo knows that victory would make the league title theirs to lose, and he is confident they can handle the pressure.

"I'm sure we will win the league," said Ronaldo.

"We only have to worry about ourselves and continue doing the same as we are now. We believe in our chances."

With Pep Guardiola's Barca side currently suffering a slight dip in form, Madrid have taken advantage to close the gap, with many viewing the two sides' meeting in mid-April as a the title decider.

"The game against Barcelona at home could be key, but we're still not thinking about this date and we are only taking it game by game and trying to improve every day," Ronaldo added.

Confidence

With the 2008 World Player of the Year expected to have a starring role at this summer's World Cup in South Africa, the Portuguese talisman believes the national side need to gain confidence and get their preparations right.

"This match is only important to obtain confidence in the squad about our chances in the World Cup," said Ronaldo, speaking ahead of Portugal's friendly match against China on Wednesday.

"The Chinese are a similar style to North Korea. It will be a good test for us and for us to measure our situation against an Asian team.

"Our real objective is to arrive 100% for the first match in the World Cup. I want to be in the semi-finals at a minimum and possibly improve on the fourth place we gained in 2006.

"This season is very important in a personal aspect because I desire titles at Real Madrid and want to play a big World Cup. I am always very ambitious and my challenge is to be the best."
