Atletico Madrid battled to a 1-0 win over mid-table rivals Osasuna despite being reduced to ten men.
Atletico, fresh from being held to a goalless draw by Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, were again frustrated early on at the Vicente Calderon.
Osasuna, who had failed to win in their previous four games, kept the hosts at bay and tried to press forward themselves.
And when Atletico winger Simao Sabrosa was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 57th minute, it appeared that Osasuna had the advantage.
However, Jose Manuel Jurado found the top corner with a fine strike from the edge of the area 11 minutes from time to seal victory for Atletico.
The result lifts Atletico two places in the standings to tenth, while Osasuna remain 13th.
