Pep Guardiola insists he would rather win the Primera Liga title than the UEFA Champions League.
Barcelona remain on course to claim both crowns this term, sitting well placed in the league and safely through to the last eight in Europe.
The Catalan giants took both trophies last season, as part of an historic Treble, and are keen to ensure that both remain at Camp Nou.
However, with Real Madrid currently leading the way in the league, Guardiola admits seeing off the challenge of Barca's arch-rivals remains his top priority this year.
"The main target this season is not to win the Champions League, but to retain the Liga title," he said.
"I never discount anything but it is clear that if we do not do well in domestic competition, we will not achieve much in Europe.
"The Liga is our main objective because I have demanded the maximum from my players in every match.
"If we are not able to maintain these levels throughout the season things will get complicated."
PeakingWhile Guardiola believes his side are close to the form they displayed during a memorable 2009, midfield anchorman Yaya Toure believes his own personal level is approaching that standard once more.
"I did not get into my rhythm early on, I was in and out of the team," the Ivorian told skysports.com .
"But I love being here, playing for the best team in the world.
"I am peaking now and hopefully I will finish the season with many trophies, like last season, and go to the World Cup in good form."
He added: "The Champions League? We have a great game with Arsenal to look forward to. It will be a fantastic game between two footballing teams."
