Higuain plays down row

Higuain plays down row

Gonzalo Higuain has played down any bad feeling between Real Madrid teammates Xabi Alonso and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The pair appeared to begin arguing over who would take the penalty for the final goal in Real's 6-2 demolition of Villarreal, with Ronaldo, who won the spot-kick, not celebrating with his team-mates after Alonso's conversion.

Higuain however was quick to dampen any rumours of a fall-out between Alonso and Ronaldo, who were previously bitter rivals at Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.

"These are circumstances of the game, Xabi had the vision of scoring his first goal for Madrid and nothing more," he said.

"Kaka takes them very often, has not missed any, and so do Cristiano, Raul and Xabi did very did very well."

Confidence

Real trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by two points in the table, with the holders still to visit the Bernabeu.

The Argentinian striker is confident that they can finish on top and advance into the UEFA Champions League quarter-final despite trailing 1-0 from the first leg to Lyon.

"We control our own destiny in both competitions, but both will be very difficult to win," he said.

"We are playing the way we should. This is a crucial point of the season and we are two points of the lead in La Liga.

"We need to stay focused and be in top form for the second let of the Champions League against Lyon."
