Pep wants more from Henry

Pep wants more from Henry

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has called for Thierry Henry to start showing his best form for the club.

The former Arsenal captain was one of the Catalans' key players in their treble success last season with 26 goals in all competitions.

However the French striker has had a bit-part role to play this campaign, scoring just three goals, something Guardiola has found unacceptable.

When asked about why he has not been used as much this season, Henry was reported to have responded by saying he was 'saving himself for the World Cup', something that angered the Catalan press.

Guardiola denied this, stating that the former Arsenal striker was misquoted, commenting: "I listened to the question and the answer in French, and it's not what he said.

"No player is going to say 'I'm going to scratch my belly' in order to go to a World Cup."

Wants more

The Barca boss however has encouraged Henry to show his best form and win his place back in the side, citing the Frenchman as a possible victim of his own success.

"That's the price he has to pay for having won everything," he added.

"If he is not playing, perhaps it is because others are more in-form or inspired.

"I want him to rebel and help us, because the 26 goals form part of the past - we need him to have that ambition that made him one of European football's greats in the last few years.

"I want more from him and he knows that, but in the end it depends on him."
