Primera Liga round-up

Primera Liga round-up

Sevilla missed the chance to close on third-placed Valencia after being held by Depor while Getafe rolled over Mallorca.

Sevilla set the tone early on and it seemed just a matter of time before the Estadio Ramon Sanchez side forged ahead against Depor.

That goal arrived on 21 minutes when Federico Fazio headed home from Diego Perotti's pin-point free-kick.

However, no sooner had they moved in front had Depor struck back. Within minutes they were level courtesy of Adrian.

Despite Sevilla's best attempts to regain the lead they failed to find the back of the net and remain fourth in the Liga table.

Real Mallorca's European hopes suffered a blow after going down 3-0 to out-of-sorts Getafe.

Daniel Parejo headed home the opener in the 32nd minute, substitute Miku made it 2-0 10 minutes from time before his fellow replacement Manu Del Moral wrapped up the scoring soon after from the penalty spot.

In that same incident Mallorca captain Jose Carlos Nunes was sent off after handling the ball on the line.

The result leaves the Balearic Island outfit with just two wins and eight defeats from their 14 away games this season, and that is badly hampering their chances of claiming an unexpected top-four finish.

Spain's second match of the day saw Sporting Gijon and Athletic Bilbao play out a goalless draw.

In a tightly contested game at Gijon's El Molinon Stadium, for Bilbao, Gaizka Toquero was a constant threat, setting up a Markel Susaeta strike that went just wide before heading a cross wide himself in the 55th.

Bilbao remain in seventh spot in the table while Gijon have climbed into the top half of the standings.
