Former Spain coach Luis Aragones has turned down an offer to take charge of Primera Liga side Sevilla.
The Andalusian outfit are in the market for a new manager after parting company with Manolo Jimenez on Tuesday following a disappointing run of results.
Aragones was identified as an ideal candidate and club chairman Jose Maria del Nido met with the experienced coach on Wednesday in an effort to thrash out a deal.
However, no agreement could be reached and first-team coach Antonio Alvarez will now take charge for Saturday's match at Villarreal.
"The latest offer we made was rejected and it's difficult to see an agreement being reached," said club spokesman Jesus Gomez.
Aragones, who led Spain to European Championship glory in 2008, has been out of work since leaving Turkish outfit Fenerbahce last summer.
Sevilla were keen to get him on board after recently crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and slipping out of the top four in the Spanish top-flight.
