Cristiano Ronaldo has seen his appeal against a two-match ban thrown out by the Spanish football federation.
The Real Madrid winger saw red last Sunday during a 2-0 win over Malaga.
The Portuguese ace was ordered from the field 70 minutes into the Santiago Bernabeu contest after his swinging elbow caught Patrick Mtiliga in the face, leaving the Danish defender with a broken nose.
Ronaldo argued long and hard after the game that his actions had not been deliberate and that his dismissal was unfair.
As a result, the former Manchester United ace lodged an appeal to RFEF calling for his impending ban to be rescinded.
However, the Spanish football authorities have stood by their initial ruling and upheld the suspension.
Ronaldo is now set sit out Real's next two fixtures against Deportivo La Coruna and Espanyol.
Madrid have, however, confirmed that they will now present their case before Spain's sporting disciplinary committee (CEDD) in a bid to have the ban overturned.
