Copa del Rey round-up

Copa del Rey round-up

The Copa del Rey shocks continued on Wednesday as Deportivo won at Valencia, Celta Vigo held Villarreal and Atletico Madrid lost at Recreativo.

Just a day after Sevilla upset Barcelona at Camp Nou, Deportivo La Coruna secured a 2-1 success over Valencia.

Andres Guardado's deft near-post finish gave the visitors the lead shortly after half-time.

They doubled their advantage soon after when Pablo Alvarez burst clear before cutting the ball onto his left foot and lashing home.

David Silva's neat backheel gave Los Che something to fight for in the second leg when he netted after 73 minutes.

Celta Vigo's clash with Villarreal remains in the balance following a 1-1 draw in their first leg at El Madrigal.

Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Cani's through-ball played in the Italian.

However, the Segunda Liga outfit levelled matters before the break when Arthuro Bernhardt headed home Roberto Trashorras' free-kick.

Third-tier Alcorcon, who dumped Real Madrid out 4-1 on aggregate in the last round, were beaten 3-2 at home Racing Santander.

Atletico Madrid's disappointing season continued after a 3-0 defeat away to second division Recreativo.

The hosts were in front on 13 minutes through Bruno Fornaroli before Atletico had Tomas Ujfalusi sent off on 21 minutes.

Just two minutes later and Jeronimo Barrales scored from the penalty spot before Daniel Candeias netted Recreativo's third in the 88th minute.
