Copa del Rey round-up

Copa del Rey round-up

Holders Barcelona crashed out of the Copa del Rey despite a 1-0 victory away to Sevilla in the second leg of their fifth round meeting.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg at Camp Nou, Pep Guardiola's side levelled the tie on aggregate thanks to Xavi's 64th minute effort, but could not break down the hosts again and crashed out on the away goals rule.

Deportivo La Coruna hit back from 2-0 down at home to Valencia to secure a 4-3 aggregate success.

Nikola Zigic struck twice in the opening 28 minutes for the visitors to give them a narrow advantage after a 2-1 home defeat in the first leg.

But Luis Filipe responded in the 49th minute for Deportivo before Juan Rodriguez made sure of their progress to the quarter-finals.

Osasuna scraped past second division Hercules on the away goals rule after Massoud Shojaei scored a fine solo effort to secure a 1-0 victory on the night and a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.

Adventure over

Alcorcon's Copa del Rey adventure came to an end as they were edged out by Racing Santander following a 0-0 stalemate in the second leg.

The third-tier outfit, who saw off Real Madrid in the last round, exited the competition as a result of their 3-2 defeat in the first meeting.

Getafe secured their place in the last eight with a 6-3 aggregate success over Malaga following a stunning 5-1 second leg victory.

Trailing 2-1 from their first meeting, the home side overturned the deficit and moved ahead thanks to first-half goals from Roberto Soldado and Lopez Rafa.

And they completed a memorable victory with further goals after the break from Soldado and Leon, with Jiminez Juanmi's 63rd-minute response merely academic as Dani Parejo grabbed a fifth for the hosts.
