Real Madrid have failed to have Cristiano Ronaldo's two-match ban suspended during an appeal.
The 24-year-old former Manchester United attacker was given a straight red card last weekend after breaking Malaga defender Patrick Mtiliga's nose with a flailing arm.
The Spanish Football Federation handed out a suspension earlier in the week and rejected Los Merengues' appeal against the decision.
Madrid have now gone to the Spanish Sports Disciplinary Committee for a further review, who will study their appeal over the next few days.
However, Ronaldo will remain suspended for the trip to Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga on Saturday and if the decision is upheld he will miss next week's game against Espanyol.
Real are currently second in the Primera Division and are trying to gun down league leaders Barcelona.
