Real Madrid To Beat Manchester City to Santa Cruz Signing?

According to a report in British tabloid the Daily Mirror, Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to make a bid of £18 million (€18.8 million) for Blackburn Rovers forward Roque Santa Cruz.

It was thought that the Paraguayan international striker might change his mind about leaving Ewood Park and hand manager Sam Allardyce a boost by opting to stay.

However, it seems that the lure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world plus the chance to compete in the Champions League could tempt Santa Cruz to ask for the opportunity to join Los Blancos.

Manchester City had been touted as favourites to land the 27-year-old if he were to leave with manager Mark Hughes being responsible for bringing him to the Premier League.

But should there be any truth to this fresh rumour, it appears that the former Bayern Munich player could well be on his way to Spain.

Whether it is anything more than mere speculation is questionable, as Real only recently signed Dutch striker Jan Klaas-Huntelaar from Ajax for a similar fee and have identified a winger as top of their priorities.
