Valencia might have been thrashed by Barcelona at the weekend but coach Unai Emery was no doubt delighted upon hearing the news today that David Silva is set to return to action this week.
The Spanish international has been injured since the first game of the season but now Marca reports his recovery process is complete and he will play a part against St. Etienne in the UEFA Cup.
The winger will not play the whole match but will instead play the second-half and should then go on to play against Espanyol in the league this weekend.
With a few games behind him it is predicted that he would be fit to play against Real Madrid at the end of December in what for both teams will be the last game of the year.
The irony of the timing of his return is that, by playing against Real Madrid, he would ensure he could not be transferred to another Spanish side, as long as he played against Espanyol too. The reason for this is that by competing in the two matches he would take his season's tally to five, which is the milestone beyond which a player cannot be transferred domestically in the winter market.
With the defending La Liga champions reportedly interested in buying him, and Valencia apparently in financial trouble, this could well be a problem for Los Che.
But Unai Emery will no doubt be more delighted with the boost to his squad than concerned about the financial implications, and it is highly unlikely Silva will not play the games.
