Los Merengues could mathematically retain the championship if they beat Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and both Villarreal and Barça lose their matches or they could clinch it against Osasuna in the Reyno de Navarra the following weekend.
"We are the last team to play then we will know the result, but this week we must be prepared for the game on Sunday," Salgado said. "It would be my fourth title and I have won all the others at home. I have nothing against Pamplona, but it would be much nicer to win it in the Bernabéu.
"Now we just hope to be champions as soon as possible. I believe will happen barring a catastrophe. The main thing is that the team has recovered its form. The team is playing well again."
Madrid are on the verge of finishing first after putting their inconsistent form behind them at a crucial stage in the campaign. "We have taken two important steps. The first was beating Murcia in a very important game where there was a lot of tension," Salgado continued.
"Then there was the win in Santander against a very a strong Racing team. I think everyone saw how serious Madrid are in those games."
Not since they won the league in 1988-89 and then again a year later have Madrid won the title in consecutive seasons and this term would be a first for Salgado.
"We have not won two consecutive league titles for so many years that this will be highly valued," he concluded.
