Benfica may not have a Bwin Liga title to play for anymore, but they are locked in a massive tussle for a Champions League qualifying spot after being thumped 3-0 at home by Academica on Friday.
The result means Benfica remain tied with Guimaraes on 45 points, having played an extra game.
Meanwhile, victory for Academica does their plight wonders at the bottom of the table, taking them seven points clear of the relegation zone.
The damage was done in the first half as Antonio Teixeira Ferreira Miguel Pedro gave the visitors the lead on four minutes, before Markus Berger made it two before half time.
Luis Bernardo Burgos Aguiar then made things safe 20 minutes into the second half, confirming a truly awful result for Benfica.
