The president, speaking at the Circuit de Catalunya Formula 1 track, told Marca that Barça showed strength both on behalf of themselves and the Liga.
"The Spanish League isn't as bad ss some were trying to make out," growled Calderón.
"Barcelona played a very good game - they were better than Manchester and deserved to win.
"Manchester are the best team in England, since they top the league, so all this shows that Spanish football isn't bad. Quite the opposite!"
Title Hopes
Real Madrid could wrap up the Liga title this weekend if all three relevant results go their way, with Calderón confirming that the title festivities have already been planned.
"They're being prepared because such things cannot be improvised," he said of the chicken-counting festival.
"Still, it won't be easy, because we must win at Athletic and we won't be champions if Barcelona or Villarreal win.
"But if it happens, it's very much welcome."
Calderón closed by congratulating Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso for his times during the afternoon training sessions at the circuit, with the driver himself then stating his desire to Madrid to win the Liga.
"He's one of ours," said the president of Alonso.
