Villa stars in Valencia win

Villa stars in Valencia win

David Villa scored twice to inspire Valencia to a 2-1 victory over Getafe in the Primera Liga.

Villa latched onto a pass from Chori Dominguez and swept the ball past Jordi Codina to break the deadlock in the 39th minute.

The Spain striker then made it 2-0 seven minutes into the second half with a delightful chip after being fed by David Silva.

The goal took Villa top of the scoring charts with 17 for the season, but Getafe fought hard to try and get back into the match.

The visitors were helped just after the hour mark when Alexis was sent off for a second bookable offence to leave Valencia with 10 men.

Manu Del Moral seized on a defensive lapse to reduce Getafe's arrears with 15 minutes remaining, but Valencia held firm to emerge triumphant.

The result strengthens Valencia's position in third place, although they remain 10 points behind second-placed Real Madrid.

Getafe stay eighth with 32 points and are now without a win in their past four games.
