Spain Marks Anniverssary Of Antonio Puerta's Death

On August the 27th Puerta collapsed to the ground in front of stunned home fans at the Ramón Sánchez Pízjuan before eventually being rushed to hospital.

However, it was not enough to save him, as at 14:30 local time on the 28th of August, the young international passed away.

To this day Sevilla fans mark the 16th minute of games - remembering Antonio's shirt number - but this being one year after the fact today holds a special significance.

As a member of one of Sevilla's best ever sides Puerta's legacy is secure enough, but it must also be remembered that he is a father. His son, Aitor, was born two months after his death.

Meanwhile the city of Seville was brought together by the tragic event, with even Betis fans walking side-by-side with the rojiblancos.

To celebrate Antonio's life and achievements, Sevilla arranged the 'Trofeo Antonio Puerta' this year. Fittingly the home side won 2-0 over Málaga on the 23rd of August.

Antonio Puerta - gone, but never forgotten.
