Having signed on this summer, Alves has yet to sample the delights of competitive football with Barça, but he will do so on Wednesday against Wisla Krakow.
He said of the impending clash, "It's a very special match.
"I hope to put in a good shift and secure for us a fine victory."
Barcelona are hot favourites to defeat the Polish side, but the former Sevilla man has played down all talk of wrapping it up at Camp Nou.
"It's impossible to seal the whole round here," he said of the two-legged competition.
"But we have the opportunity to take a huge step. We can start out on the right path, because we don't know what lies in the return leg."
Imposition
Wisla, not one of the leading lights of the continental game, will give Barça a chance to take the attacking intiative.
"We can impose our form of play on them," noted the Brazilian.
"But we're mainly interested in winning, regardless of who is it against.
"This is a unique game in that the biggest danger lies in doing things incorrectly. Thus we'll need to sweat blood to win for Barcelona.
"We want to and we like to compete, and our objective is to be prevail in these matches."
He continued, "As for myself, I feel physically great. I'm in my best moment and training at the moment is going brilliantly. I think the whole team is at the same level."
After Barça's conceding goals against New York, Alves knows that a co-ordinated back line is a must.
"We intend to attack and defend as a unit. If we remain mindful that equilibrium is necessary, we'll be difficult to beat," he concluded.
