Guti agrees Turkish switch

Guti agrees Turkish switch

Spanish schemer Guti has agreed a two-year contract with Besiktas following his exit from Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old midfielder has opted to take on a new challenge in Turkey after spending the last 15 years with his hometown club.

He is expected to put the finishing touches to his move to Istanbul in the next 24 hours, with a medical scheduled for Tuesday morning.

He flew in to discuss terms on Monday, shortly after revealing that he was cutting ties with Real.

Upon announcing his decision to leave, Guti confirmed that he was mulling over an offer from Besiktas.

Interesting

"I have a good offer from them, an interesting one, now we will see," he said.

An agreement has now been put in place, with Guti set to be reacquainted with his former Real boss Bernd Schuster in Turkey.

"Under the agreement, the player will be paid 2.7million euros (Ј2.2m) per year," Besiktas announced in a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange.

Not that money is an issue for the experienced midfielder, as he has plied his trade at the very top of the game for well over a decade.

He made his professional debut for Real in 1995 and went on to help them to five Primera Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League crowns over the course of 542 senior appearances.
