Skysports.com understands Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel will undergo a medical at Birmingham City on Wednesday after the two clubs agreed a fee.
Michel has been a long-term target for Blues boss Alex McLeish and also impressed during the friendly between the two teams at St Andrews earlier this month.
McLeish had expressed an interest in signing the 23-year-old and was hoping the Birmingham board would find the funds to finance a transfer.
It is now understood that the Premier League newcomers have settled on a Ј3million fee with Gijon to secure the deal.
The gifted schemer is due to travel to England on Wednesday to be put through a medical and discuss personal terms with the club.
The deal could be completed in time for Michel to be available for Birmingham's game at home to Stoke City on Saturday.
