Barca to reward stars

Barca to reward stars

Barcelona have confirmed they plan to offer new deals to Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.

The European champions are keen to reward the duo, along with Carles Puyol and Rafael Marquez, with new contracts to secure their long-term futures at Camp Nou.

Barca are believed to be preparing a deal to make Messi the highest earner at the club, while Spanish international Iniesta is also in line for an improved deal.

The Spanish titans have already agreed new deals with goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielders Xavi and Yaya Toure this summer, and sporting director Txiki Beguiristain said it was important to "keep the basic unit from last season".

"He (Messi) is the best player in the world," Beguiristain said of the Argentina international at the club's general assembly, adding that they would attempt to bring Spain midfielder Iniesta's salary "in line with current reality".
