Maldonado set for Spain

Venezuelan striker Giancarlo Maldonado has agreed to join Spanish side Xerez from Atlante.

The 27-year-old has been plying his trade in Mexico for the last two years, while his entire career to date has been spent in Latin America.

He made a name for himself at Uruguayan outfit River Plate, before heading to his homeland in 2004 to join Union Atletico Maracaibo.

A short spell at Chilean side Club Deportivo O'Higgins followed before he joined Atlante in 2007.

He is now set for a first taste of life in Europe and is excited by the challenges which lie ahead.

"Everything is on track and we expect both sides to agree very soon," Maldonado said in Marca .

"I think all that is left to do is for me to complete a medical."
