Although his campaign was dogged by injury, it's also indicative of his status at El Madrigal, where he is largely seen as surplus to requirements. As such, he's looking to move on.
He said, "I just met with José Manuel Llaneza [CEO of Villarreal] and I raised the topic of my future, which will see me play next year at another club," he said.
"I'm eager to avoid another season like this, in which I was unable to play.
"The club told me that if I can find a valid option elsewhere they won't stand in my way, so now I'll need to wait and see if suitable options present themselves."

The Málaga-born stopper felt that this was the best course of action for both himself and the club.
"I have two more years of my contract and I think that this is best for both of us - I want to play and they want to recover some of their investment," he said.
"Valencia's interest? This isn't something I've heard personally - it's just from agents and the press. I can't deny the excitement of having such a club supposedly looking at me, but I can't say anything more."

Laporta Goes On The Defensive
Eschewing the chance to fight back at his assailants, Laporta instead assured all in Catalunya that the petition process will be respected.
The president is currently under attack from a group that has gathered over 9,000 signatures - several thousand more than mandated by the club's rules - to launch a 'motion of censure' against him.
With the petition being presented today, Laporta took the time to announce his thoughts.
"At the request of the vote of censure, this morning I asked the president of the Catalan Football Federation to appoint the delegate who will preside over matters," he began.
"Both the board and myself have maintained an attitude of utmost respect for the collection of signatures. We've given an example of democratic culture, and we will keep on doing so."

But Assunção has decided to leave the Dragons, terminating his contract with Porto without just cause under the Webster ruling.
According to Article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations, any player who signs a contract when aged under 28 is able to unilaterally break that contract after a period of three years.
It is believed that Spanish side Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Assunção, now a free agent.

And the talented youngster admits that he will complete a lifelong dream by playing for the Blaugrana next season.
“It is a dream I have had since I was small. I used to go the ground when I was young and played at all youth levels until I was 17, and when I left I knew there was a risk I’d never come back,” he told the club’s official website.

But the ex-Lorient man is confident of slotting into the Barca midfield without any issues, insisting his defensive qualities will help the team express themselves offensively.
“I think [I'll succeed] because a team like Barça needs to have possession but it also needs to defend well and I think I can help the team a lot in this aspect,” he said.
“I’ve seen Barça play loads of matches. In addition, there’s Touré Yaya, who I know pretty well and who plays in midfield. I hope to give my all and help to defend well.
“As well as attacking you have to defend well and that’s why there has to be a balance. I hope to adapt rapidly to the system at FC Barcelona.”

Keita is one among many African-born stars making their name in the upper echelon over the last few years, joining the likes of team-mates Toure and Samuel Eto’o.
However, he is the first Malian to ever play for Barca – a fact that makes him feel honoured.
“I’m very proud I had other offers but I’ve wanted to come to Barcelona for some time and when I had the chance to join other teams I did everything possible to come here,” he said. “In addition, Barça wanted me and that helped. It’s a club I’ve always liked.
“It’s true that there have been African players in the big clubs for the last few years and that shows that African football has progressed a lot. We players have become aware of the qualities that we can bring to our teams.

Zambrano was promoted from his role as B team coach when the club parted company with Victor Munoz in February and successfully led the team to survival, although did so by going down to the wire on the final day of the season.
Nevertheless, the achievement in itself was enough for him to earn the trust of president Francisco Mendoza, who confirmed that Zambrano would stay in charge for next season at a press conference on Friday.
The coach was delighted to have been given the chance to continue his work at Recre and is looking for a steady improvement from the side next season.
"We are going to work hard in order to continue our growth as far as our humble resources and common sense will take us," he told reporters.
"We will only keep the players that want to be here and are willing to commit fully to achieving our objectives."

Ronaldinho Won't Rush For Milan - Agent
Milan, who missed out on a place in next season’s Champions League after finishing only fifth in Serie A, remain determined to reach an agreement with Barca for Ronaldinho despite a protracted transfer saga.
However, the Brazilian international, who is back home in Porto Alegre this week, is in no rush to see his future resolved, according to his brother and agent Roberto de Assis.
"In his view, the best thing to do is wait for the two clubs to find an agreement freely and without pressure, there is no hurry," he said.
"Transfers for the 2008-09 season end on August 30 and preseason for teams are scheduled starting from July 19 and we are only in May now."
French newspaper L'Equipe claim that English side Manchester City are now the only other remaining serious bidder for the services of Ronaldinho.

Despite having previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, only City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has shown a firm interest, with the former Thai Prime Minister believing that a big-name signing is required to fill the City of Manchester Stadium. The 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Gimnàstic de Tarragona from Real Madrid, has signed for Getafe for an undisclosed fee following good displays for the second-division side.
González considers Getafe, who reached the Quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup this season, to be the best team for a young player to develop.
"I come to Getafe with big goals. I want to help the club to do better than in this campaign, which was excellent. It is the perfect place for a youngster, because they bet on them and give them minutes of play," González said.

Jonás Confirms Mallorca Exit
Jonás, 25, has come to the end of his two year loan from Vélez Sársfield and with Mallorca unable to afford the €8million fee that the Argentine club are requesting for his services, the midfielder has played his last game for the Islanders.
"The truth is that I am not particularly pleased with the way things have ended, but I go away content because of what I have achieved at Mallorca and the fact that I had an opportunity to play in Spain," he told Marca.
"My relationship with the president has always been the same as it has been with everyone at the club, although it is true that the technical secretary and me have not exchanged words. Having said that, I leave without being annoyed with anyone."
The Argentine international was linked with a move to Portsmouth during the January transfer window and hopes that he will get the opportunity to continue his career in Europe.
"I do not know where I will be next season, but my desire is to continue playing in Europe. Hopefully something will come up that is good for all parties," he affirmed.

Spanish Debate: What Makes Pellegrini Stand Out?
South American players have become an integral part of Spain's footballing culture and a great many of them are forever linked with success. From Di Stefano to Santos, Ronaldo to Ronaldinho, the cream of talent from the region has inspired many a Spanish team to victory over the years.
The same cannot be said of coaches from the region. Since César Luis Menotti's generally barren spell at Barcelona in the early eighties, a number of South America's finest coaching talents have tested themselves in Spain without a great deal of success. Carlos Bianchi, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Washington Tabárez, Miguel Ángel Russo, Gustavo Benítez, Marcelo Bielsa, Vanderlei Luxemburgo... the list is seemingly endless.
Héctor Cúper came close to titles on numerous occasions with Valencia, but his record in Spain – and elsewhere - since then has somewhat blotted his copy book. Troubled spells at Mallorca and Real Betis perhaps indicate that much of his success with Los Che was piggybacked on the team that Claudio Ranieri had built before leaving for Atlético Madrid in 1999.
In fact, the only two coaches from the region that have won trophies on a fairly consistent basis both spent the majority of playing careers in Europe: Helenio Herrera – who among other achievements, won four La Liga titles with Atlético Madrid and Barcelona – in France and Alfredo Di Stefano – a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Cup Winners Cup winner with Valencia – in Spain itself.
However, in recent years another coach has emerged who defies the logic that explains the success of Herrera and Di Stefano. A coach who took a team that first tasted top flight football in 1998 to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2006 and to a best-ever league finish of second place in the season just ended. That coach is Manuel Pellegrini.
While Pellegrini has had the fortune to coach a club with steady long-term ambitions, a sensible board of directors and an extensive South American scouting network – something that neither Bianchi or Luxemburgo were, for instance, blessed with – perhaps primary to his success in Spain has been his ability to adapt tactically to the rigours of the European game in a way that so few of his contemporaries have been able to.
In his first season with Villarreal, Pellegrini inherited a squad with players suited to the classic South American 4-4-2 diamond formation. Since César Luis Menotti's generally barren spell at Barcelona in the early eighties, a number of South America's finest coaching talents have tested themselves in Spain without a great deal of success. Carlos Bianchi, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Washington Tabárez, Miguel Ángel Russo, Gustavo Benítez, Marcelo Bielsa, Vanderlei Luxemburgo... the list is seemingly endless.
Héctor Cúper came close to titles on numerous occasions with Valencia, but his record in Spain – and elsewhere - since then has somewhat blotted his copy book. Troubled spells at Mallorca and Real Betis perhaps indicate that much of his success with Los Che was piggybacked on the team that Claudio Ranieri had built before leaving for Atlético Madrid in 1999.
In fact, the only two coaches from the region that have won trophies on a fairly consistent basis both spent the majority of playing careers in Europe: Helenio Herrera – who among other achievements, won four La Liga titles with Atlético Madrid and Barcelona – in France and Alfredo Di Stefano – a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Cup Winners Cup winner with Valencia – in Spain itself.
However, in recent years another coach has emerged who defies the logic that explains the success of Herrera and Di Stefano. A coach who took a team that first tasted top flight football in 1998 to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2006 and to a best-ever league finish of second place in the season just ended. La Liga Team Of The Week: Round 38
While fewer than half of the games had anything at stake, there was no shortage of goalmouth action in La Liga's final week. True, some games - most notably Getafe and Betis' 1-1 draw - passed without too much incident, as did Almería's 3-1 win at Espanyol. But Sevilla took out their frustrations on Athletic by four goals to one, while Valencia punished a lethargic Atlético 3-1. Villarreal capped a memorable season with a 2-0 win over high-flying Deportivo at the Riazor, while the day before, Murcia were swept aside 5-3 by Barcelona. Not to be outdone, Real Madrid preceded their trohpy presentation with a 5-2 win over Levante.

César Navas (Racing): Calm, confident stuff: his presence ensured that what was a depleted Racing back line didn't rest on their laurels.
Capdevila (Villarreal): Yes, Capdevila again. It's true that Depor had their chances against Villarreal at the Riazor, but the Catalan helped secure a clean sheet for his side and put in a power of work further forward, culminating in an assist for Guille Franco
Midfielders
Félipe Melo (Almería): A great performance, complete with a goal, for the Brazilian. The 24-yaer-old bade farewell to his rojiblanco teammates with a showing that will have his new employers at Fiorentina licking their lips in anticipation. He could very well grace the Champions League next season - a fine reward for a fine season.
Guti (Real Madrid): The master of the deft assist, Guti showed his true worth as he exploited any given gap in the Levante defence to provide the blanco attackers with chances. Here he did what he does best.
Giovani Dos Santos (Barcelona): A masterful display from a kid who Barcelona have just found out might be an attacking midfielder instead of a forward. A hat-trick's just the half of it: this was brash, energetic and scintillating stuff; it was "only" Murcia, but he still did everything right.
Strikers
Fredi Kanouté (Sevilla): Two goals and a return to form for the Malian. There was no arguing with his performance, one that was reminiscent of happier times last season.

With Guardiola set to take charge at the end of May, Txiki - who played alongside Guardiola during the 'dream team' years - is glad to have someone coming in that understands "the philosophy of the club and how things work on a day-to-day basis."
He also indicated that Guardiola had already made some requests to the board as to changes that he would like to see implemented in time for next season.

The Mostolés-born stopper shipped only 32 goals in 36 games this season - the same as last year's winner, Roberto 'Pato' Abbonzanieri of Getafe.
He said to the Real Madrid website after receiving his award, "The truth is that I'm very excited by this. But this is an award that I must share with the rest of the team, who have been fantastic all season. Without them I could not have done it.

Deportivo Make Bravo Move
Bravo, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and is seeking a move to Europe after spending his entire career with Chivas, for whom he has scored over one hundred goals since making his debut in 2001.
Racing Santander have previously shown an interest in the Mexican, but it now seems as if Deportivo are ready to jump to the head of the queue for his signature after club president Augusto César Lendoiro met with his agents during the week to initiate talks.
Lendoiro is keen to build on an excellent season half of the season and having already secured the permanent services of Angel Lafita and Filipe Luis - Christian Wilhelmsson to follow - he has his eyes set on a forward and central midfielder to fill out the squad.

La Liga Preview: Real Mallorca - Real Zaragoza
When Real Zaragoza kicked off their opening game of the season against newly-promoted Real Murcia last August and lost, few would have thought that was a sign of more to come.
It was deemed to be a one off from a team that were expected to be challenging for the top six at the very least after their performance last season under Víctor Fernández.
Instead, los Maños head to the ONO Estadi in Mallorca knowing that they need at least a point to stand any chance of returning to the Balearic island for a league game next term.
The club's troubles have been well documented, with the current coach, Manolo Villanova, being the fourth of the season while the summer sales outweighed the summer purchases and appear to have left the squad thinly stretched.
Internal squabbles sometimes turned public, like with Andrés D'Alessandro's problems with Fernández which is ended with the player being loaned out for teh second half of the season.
On the pitch, the flowing football and the flurry of goals from last season failed to be repeated this time around and while Diego Milito remains popular he is not the hero he was when last term ended.
Talk at La Romareda this week has been one of optimism, even if Villanova somewhat oddly stated that their fate was in their own hands when in fact they are in 18th place and one points behind both Osasuna and Recreativo.

That feeling that they can achieve something must come from the quality on paper within the squad, because on grass they have not been at all good on their travels.
Zaragoza have played 18 away games this term and have won just once, while drawing five and losing 12, and they have only netted on 12 occasions while conceding 34.
Those figures do not bode well for the visit to a team that is just one place and one point behind sixth and have high hopes of pinching the final UEFA Cup spot from Racing Santander.
Mallorca are a club which are very difficult to predict at the start of any season, but for such a modest outfit their performance in the top flight since winning promotion ten years ago has been magnificent.
Two mid-table finishes in the past two seasons gave coach Gregorio Manzano something to build upon and he has done very well in the transfer market to bolster the squad.
The main arrival was Daniel Güiza from Getafe and his goals have helped lift the Balearic club into the top ten and to the cusp of another appearance in European competition.
An Intertoto Cup place is still in the offing, of course, but the Mallorca players will know that victory on Sunday coupled with Racing dropping points could mean a couple more weeks holiday this summer.

Since then, the majority of years has seen the Cantabrian club battling against the drop, a struggle that they lost in 2000-01, before bouncing straight back up a season later.
Things changed last summer when Marcelino was brought in, somewhat surprisingly, after he had resigned following a relatively successful spell with Recreativo.
There were few indicators about what was to come and many predicted that Racing would once again jostle to stay up and almost as many said that they would not even achieve that.

Far from just achieving that, however, Racing have been in the top ten nearly all season and in the European places for the past few weeks, with a Champions League spot even an outside possibility at one stage.
They currently lie in sixth place and are just one point ahead of Mallorca, who take on another relegation struggler in the shape of Real Zaragoza at rthe ONO Estadi.
After all that the team have been through they would, and rightly so, consider their season to be a failure if they do not now book their place in Europe for next term.
Their guests on Sunday reach the UEFA Cup semi finals last season could have built on that in order to try and push themselves back into the competition for next term.
