Paulo Assunção Leaves Porto

The Portuguese club had expressed their wish to keep in the squad the 28-year-old, who has been linked with a move away from Estádio do Dragão in the summer.

But Assunção has decided to leave the Dragons, terminating his contract with Porto without just cause under the Webster ruling.

According to Article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations, any player who signs a contract when aged under 28 is able to unilaterally break that contract after a period of three years.

It is believed that Spanish side Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Assunção, now a free agent.

The Brazilian midfielder, who returned to Porto in 2005 after a one-year stint in the reserve squad in 2000, made 38 appearances for the Dragons this season.
