According the his Godfather, Real Mais an offer that Cristiano Ronaldo can't refuse...or at least that is what Marca would hasve us believe in its latest attempt to promote the player's transfer from Manchester United to the Bernabeu.
The latest report (rumour?) comes just a day after Real Madrid appeared to admit defeat in their public pursuit of English football's Player of the Year, saying they understood their prime target was not available for sale this summer.
But Marca have declared the transfer on again, citing an interview that Fernao Sousa gave in Portugal.
They have depicted Godfather Sousa as a highly influential person in Ronaldo's life to invest his words with great significance.
They claim it was Sousa who advised the young Ronaldo to move to Sporting at the age of 11, then encouraged him to move to Old Trafford in 2003 - and is now urging him to move to El Santiago Bernabeu. Apparently it will be made public in July.
“Cristiano must take advantage of this opportunity to go to Real Madrid,” Sousa is said to have told Marca.
“I think that he has decided he will go to Real Madrid, but he will not say it until the European Championship is over.
“Cristiano Ronaldo’s top objective is to win everything, it is what he wants the most, especially the Champions League and then going as far as possible with Portugal during Euro 2008."
Of course, United have already threatened to report Real Madrid to Fifa, and Sir Alex Ferguson has accused them of using Marca as a propaganda weapon to help secure incoming transfers.
I guess we'll have to wait until July to pick the bones out of this one...
