Wolfsburg have moved to rubbish reports claiming they are set to sign Christoph Metzelder.
The Germany international will become a free agent at the end of the season, with his contract at Real Madrid set to expire.
The 29-year-old has spent the last three years with the Spanish giants, having moved to Santiago Bernabeu on a Bosman in June 2007.
He has struggled to make an impact at Real, though, with a succession of injuries keeping him sidelined for long periods.
The decision has therefore been taken from both sides to part ways, with no fresh terms set to be offered to the experienced centre-half.
No truthWith it now common knowledge that he will be up for grabs this summer, speculation has begun to circulate as to where he will end up.
With Metzelder said to favour a return to his homeland, reigning Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg were said to be a possibility.
However, the club have played down those reports, insisting they have no plans to approach the former Borussia Dortmund defender.
"These reports are pure rubbish, there is no truth in them at all," Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hoeness told Wolfsburger Nachrichten .
"It's not true and there is nothing going on. I wonder how such reports are produced!"
