Masch desires Barca switch

Want-away Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano's first-choice destination is Barcelona, according to the player's representative.

With Yaya Toure and Rafael Marquez already passed through the Camp Nou exit door, Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his midfield options.

Barca have already missed out on signing number one target Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal and Guardiola may turn his attentions back to the Reds' defensive midfielder.

The La Liga giants were keen on signing the Argentina captain last summer, but the Spanish super-powers were unable to prise the former West Ham man away from Anfield.

Mascherano, who is currently on international duty, has been linked heavily with a move to Inter Milan to play under Rafa Benitez, who was sacked as Liverpool boss in the summer.

But Horacio Zandonadi, the player's Spanish agent says the Ј25million-rated South American is keen on a move to Barca where he can join countryman Lionel Messi in Catalunya.

"The player and all of us would love him to be at the club," Zandonadi told COMRadio , a Catalan station.

"The numbers are close to half what Barca were being asked to pay for Fabregas. He has not renewed his contract (at Liverpool) and they promised that this year they would help him leave.

"We're talking about a much easier situation than last year."
