Hercules lead Trezeguet hunt

Hercules lead Trezeguet hunt

Primera Liga new boys Hercules have emerged as the shock frontrunners in the race to sign David Trezeguet.

The French striker remains on the books of Italian giants Juventus for now, but has been edging closer to the exits all summer.

Having slipped down the pecking order in Turin, he looks set to continue his distinguished career elsewhere.

There has been no shortage of interest shown in the experienced frontman, with clubs across Europe keen to bring a player of his considerable pedigree on board.

It appears, however, that a switch to Spain could now be in the offing, with Real Zaragoza and Hercules having leapt to the front of the queue.

Trezeguet's agent admits he has already held discussions with both clubs, and has hinted that a move to Alicante would appeal to his client.

Advantage

"On Wednesday I spoke with Zaragoza and Hercules officials and those talks are ongoing," Antonio Caliendo told L'Equipe .

"Hercules hold the advantage because David's wife is from Alicante, so that could be important.

"It could be arranged that he will go there on a two-year contract. We have two other offers to consider, but that is the most appealing.

"We have a meeting scheduled with Juventus officials on Saturday when the matter will be discussed further."

Reports suggest Juventus are willing to cancel Trezeguet's contract, which still has 12 months left to run, by mutual consent, paving the way for him to move to Spain as a free agent.
