Injury blow for Ronaldo

Injury blow for Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyprus and Norway with an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old forward sustained the knock while on duty for Real Madrid during Sunday's 0-0 draw at Real Mallorca and is likely to be sidelined for three weeks.

An MRI scan on Monday morning showed "a contusion on his right ankle", Real revealed in a statement.

The statement added: "He will be unavailable for an estimated period of approximately three weeks."

Portugal take on Cyprus in Guimaraes on Friday before travelling to Oslo to face Norway four days later.

Ronaldo is expected to miss Real's next two Primera Liga encounters, as well as their opening UEFA Champions League group phase clash against Ajax in Holland on September 15th.
