Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has rejected reports linking the club with a move for Real Madrid star Raul.
Reports emanating from Spain suggested cash-rich City were lining up a mega-bid for the Real icon as they look to bolster their squad this summer.
However, Hughes has moved quickly to dismiss the speculation that the Spain legend is on City's list of targets.
"We keep on getting linked with players and that's going to happen every week," Hughes told Sky Sports News.
"I think maybe if you work back to where the story originated, I would suggest it's come from Spain, it's not come from England."
ResearchHughes admits the club are busy planning for new signings, but insists they will not settle for second best.
"We are looking to bring players that will obviously complement the good players we already have," added Hughes.
"We have significant areas of the team that we want to strengthen and we will do that with the best players we are able to acquire
"If the right player isn't available we don't want to go for second best.
"We will look at what's there and if we have to wait a little bit longer then so be it.
"It is about making sure that when we do go into the market we get the right quality and the right type of player.
"We are looking at all aspects of anyone we obviously covet.
"We obviously look at injury records, the guys as individuals and as personalities and actually do more groundwork leading into hoping to sign these players than has possibly happened in the past. As a consequence we will make less mistakes in the future."
