Copa del Rey round-up

Copa del Rey round-up
Barcelona safely negotiated the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Mallorca to set up a showdown with Athletic Bilbao, who defeated Sevilla 3-0.

Barcelona beat Real Mallorca 2-0 at Camp Nou last month and clinched their place in the final with a 1-1 draw in the return leg.

Gonzalo Castro put Mallorca ahead on the stroke of half-time and Barcelona suffered a further blow when Jose Martin Caceres was sent off early in the second period.

However, Jose Luis Marti Soler missed a penalty for Mallorca, who were then reduced to ten men themselves when Josemi was dismissed.

Lionel Messi then scored nine minutes from time to make it 1-1 and give Barca a 3-1 victory on aggregate.

Athletic Bilbao lost 2-1 at home to Sevilla in the Primera Liga on Saturday and they had to overturn an identical deficit in the second leg of their semi-final.

They made a terrific start as Javier Martinez struck in the fourth minute to make it 2-2 on aggregate.

Fernando Llorente then put Bilbao in firm control of the tie with a goal after 34 minutes and Gaizka Toquero added a third three minutes later.
