European review
Barcelona stole the show again in Spain while there were big wins for Inter and Juventus in Italy.

Meanwhile the Old Firm both slipped up in Scotland and the title race in Germany has got even tighter after leaders Hertha Berlin lost on their travels.

Primera Liga

Barcelona remain six points clear at the top after a resounding 6-0 win over eighth placed Malaga thanks to a double from Samuel Eto'o and strikes from Xavi, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and Daniel Alves.

Former Real Madrid striker Hugo Sanchez returned to the Bernabeu in charge of Almeria but saw his side lose 3-0 with Marcelo getting on the scoresheet and a brace from Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Sevilla are six points clear in third after their good form continued with a 4-1 home win over Real Valladolid with Fredi Kanoute claiming a hat-trick and Luis Fabiano scoring the other.

Serie A

Inter restored their seven-point lead at the summit with a 3-0 win over Reggina at the San Siro.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic registered his 18th and 19th goals of the season after Esteban Cambiasso had opened the scoring with a rare goal.

Second place Juventus recorded the result of the weekend when they beat Roma away 4-1 denting the Giallorossi's UEFA Champions League hopes in the process.

Vincenzo Iaquinta helped himself to two goals while Olof Mellberg and Pavel Nedved completed the scoring.

Third placed AC Milan could only draw 0-0 away at Napoli while fourth placed Genoa beat Udinese 2-0 at home with Diego Milito on target again.

SPL

Celtic missed the chance to go five points clear at the top after they failed to capitalise on Rangers' 2-2 draw at home to Hearts on Saturday.

The Hoops could only record the same scoreline away at Dundee United but the visitors looked comfortable after Scot McDonald had given them a half-time lead.

Francisco Sandaza turned the game around when he scored twice in the second period but a late Lee Naylor goal claimed a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile their Old Firm rivals threw away a two-goal lead at Ibrox with Kyle Lafferty and Barry Ferguson on target for the hosts, and Kristos Karipidis and Ruben Palazuelos netting for Hearts.

Bundesliga

Hertha Berlin saw their lead at the top cut with a trio of clubs just one point behind them.

The leaders lost 2-0 away at Stuttgart with Cacau and Sami Khedira scoring for the hosts while a Jose Ernesto Sosa strike was enough for Bayern Munich to see off Karlsruhe at the Allianz Arena.

Wolfsburg sit third after they beat Arminia Bielefeld away 3-0 while a brace from Paulo Guerrero helped Hamburg stay in touch in fourth after a 2-1 success at Schalke.

Ligue 1

Lyon bounced back from two straight defeats to beat Sochaux 2-0 thanks to Ederson and Anthony Mounier and go one point clear at the top.

Marseille kept up the pressure in second after they beat Nantes 2-0 at home with goals from Renato Civelli and Brandao while Bordeaux remain two points further behind in third after they beat Le Havre away 3-0.

Toulouse got themselves back in the title race with a 4-1 win over fellow high flyers PSG. The win sees the hosts go level on points with PSG and four behind Lyon.

Eredivisie

AZ Alkmaar saw their lead at the top reduced to nine points after they could only manage a 0-0 draw at home to Feyenoord with second placed FC Twente taking full advantage with a 2-1 home win over FC Groningen.

Meanwhile Ajax recorded their fifth win in six games with an impressive 3-0 away success at NAC Breda with goals from Thomas Vermaelen, Gregory Van der Wiel and Luis Suarez.

PSV remain fifth after Ibrahim Afellay and Ola Toivonen handed them a 2-0 victory over Vitesse.

Best of the rest

Porto stretched their lead at the top in Portugal to four points after a 2-0 home win over Naval Primeiro de Maio while Olympiakos also saw their lead at the top in Greece grow to 11 points after a narrow 3-2 win at Panionios Athens.

The top two met in Turkey with leaders Sivasspor maintaining their slender one point advantage over Besiktas after a 1-1 draw.
