Martinez aims to keep Gomez

Martinez aims to keep Gomez
Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez is hoping Espanyol will listen to offers for Jordi Gomez in the summer.

Gomez has impressed during a season-long loan at Swansea and has scored 13 goals in 45 appearances for the Championship club.

The midfielder has reportedly caught the eye of Celtic during his time with the Swans, with speculation claiming the SPL leaders are preparing a Ј2million bid.

Martinez is not surprised the 23-year-old is wanted by other clubs, but is keen to have the chance to persuade Gomez that his long-term future lies at the Liberty Stadium.

Foolish

"Espanyol are moving into a new stadium and financially they are probably in a position where they will have to listen to offers for any of their players, including Jordi," Martinez told the Swansea Evening Post .

"After that, we know there is a lot of interest in him from British clubs.

"We know that because there are a lot of scouts watching our games and, if a midfielder scores 13 goals in the Championship, everyone is going to be aware.

"There is going to be a lot of interest, but to go from that to say we will not have Jordi in the long-term would be foolish. It's ridiculous in fact."
