Valencia climbed above Levante and into third place in the table as the former leaders suffered their second successive defea, while the games at Real Mallorca and Real Betis ended goalless. Levante defender Javi Venta was credited with scoring an own goal in the 31st minute as he could only toe-poke the ball beyond Gustavo Munua with Jordi Alba in close proximity after a defence-splitting pass.
